Sunstar is an array of six prisms which take incoming sunlight and refract it, bending the light and spreading it into a spectrum–all the colors of the rainbow. It was founded by George Ellery Hale, a solar astronomer devoted to studying and understanding sunspots, and was also one of the key people involved in building telescopes in the early 20th century. Easy paved path around the historic Mt Wilson Observatory, with breathtaking views of the LA Basin. Great for kids, with the historic telescopes, museums, and of course the Cosmic Cafe for snacks. To make it slightly more adventurous, Echo Rock is an easy quarter mile or so on the (unpaved) Sturtevant Trail, with great views of the back range.
