Playing around with this stuff right now. Roof tiles do not work at all. Same with stairs. Tried snapping them on a stair above and more too, nothing works. Amazingly a friend of mine got it working. Currently assuming it's caused by the water level or something directly below the ground level, as i build right besides a pond.
